I followed the advice on HP support forum and uninstalled HPSA. Still no help. Now I get an error 1605 - transfer error which I see has been an issue with past releases of the Support Assistant. I do not see any place which states that you must be using Windows 8 to use the latest version of HP Support Assistant. This will not delete personal files or change major settings, but it does return the computer to Windows 8 if it was previously installed .

I looked around some more and found a post that said I needed to run a Windows FixIt Install/Uninstall app and reboot, which I did. for now.
